We need to oppose changes that would weaken the federal CRA as a community development tool.
The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), passed in 1977 in response to redlining, creates a continuing and affirmative responsibility for banks to make loans and investments in the communities where they do business, including low- and moderate-income communities, underserved communities, and rural areas.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. (FDIC) and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) have issued proposed rules that significantly weaken the federal CRA's regulatory oversight and reduce incentives for community development activity by banks.
Please have your organization sign on to the Illinois CRA Coalition’s letter opposing these proposed rules.
We'll be accepting organization signatures until 12:00 p.m. CT on Friday, October 9, 2026.
